Pruning Without Stressing The Plant
When trying to get plants that are wider, bushier and more productive a common strategy is
to prune the plant's tip. What this does is reduce the 'apical
dominance' of the plant, reducing the growth of the main stalk and
allows side branches to grow out more. Why is this better? Simple: the
highest point of the plant gets more sunlight. When pruned a plant will
then have two side branches grow out as the highest point of the plant
and you have to highest points getting the sunlight. But to get this
result a gardener will sacrifice one 'high point' to get two more, and
the plant will have to heal a wound. Generally, this will take some time
and the plant will stop growing while it heals. A better strategy would
be to apply veg
boom+ to the part of the plant where you want to
reduce the apical dominance, i.e., the highest point of the plant. With
this strategy the plant will not need to heal and you will retain the
plant's tip, giving you a third growth point with the two side branches.
What Effects Does veg boom + Have On Apical Dominance? Apical dominance is the process by which
the top of the plant grows faster than the side branches. But veg boom +
reduces apical dominance (1) resulting in a plant that will
be shorter and wider.
1.
What Is veg boom+?
veg boom+ is a plant hormone that promotes cell
division. It is part of a group of hormones called cytokinins and kinetin.
2. What Are Some Of the Uses Of
veg boom+?
Research has indicate that veg
boom+ may be usable at many different times of a plant's life, but
common research has been to extend a plant's life. A less researched but
more powerful area has been to improve seed germination.
3. Does veg boom+ Have An Effect
On Seed Germination?
A study (1) has
found that when kinetin was used for aerobical germination of rice seeds
germination was improved. The same study reported that veg boom+
inhibited germination under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that veg
boom+ combined with oxygen can have very important effects on
germinating difficult seeds.
4. What Effects Does veg boom+
Have On Apical Dominance?
Apical dominance is the
process by which the top of the plant grows faster than the side
branches. But veg boom+ reduces apical dominance (1)
resulting in a plant that will be shorter and wider.
5. Does veg boom + Generate Bigger Leaves?
Yes; since veg boom +generates cell expansion the leaves will be bigger
(1).Bigger leaves can be important since they absorb more light
for the plant to generate more growth and flowers.
