This is an amazing system for anyone frustrated with cloning. It was my first experience with aeroponics.
After putting the newly cut clones in the little rubber holders and starting the pump spraying the cut ends, I decided to do a little torture test to see what the clones could take while in this aeroponics system.
I put them uncovered about 2 1/2 feet from a 250 watt metal halide, with a fan blowing nearby enought to move their leaves slightly. To my amazement, they didn't wilt! I could not believe it. Under those conditions they should've been screaming for mercy, but they looked so good it was like they didn't know they had left the mother plant. Also, I unintentionally fed them very acidic nutrient solution for the first 2 days due to a malfuntioning pH meter. I corrected that when I discovered it by doing a reservoir refill and again adding a teaspoon of rooting hormone to the reservoir. Water was held at 80 degrees with an aquarium heater, and pH was adjusted to 6. No nutrients were added to the reservoir except a teaspoon of Rootex cloning jel. I was curious to see how long it would take to show since of needing some more nutrients.
At day 4, a very few leaves just barely started to lighten, so I gave them a light foilar feeding of Advanced Nutrients "Jumpstart", a spray for clones. I had never used the stuff before, so I was curious to see if it would keep them green. I came back in four hours and was amazed to see the leaves noticeably much darker. In four hours! I realized that the combination of the foilar feeding and the oxygen in the root zone really let them use the nutrients quickly, but this was wonderfully ridiculous! I gave them a daily foilar spraying from then on, and they stayed deep green. Advenced Nutrients recommends spraying from the first day, and I will next time.
Day 5 showed the first nubs of roots, and the 25 test clones are all rooting with nice healthy white roots now on day 8. 100% success even after torturing them! I've planted a few in Promix and put them under a halide with still no wilting.
I can honestly say I have never seen a batch of clones so happy and green and healthy - ever. And I have never spent less time fretting and fussing over a batch either. I usually hate cloning, but I am actually looking forward to the next batch just to see this mean little machine spit 'em out! Henry Ford would've been proud!
Once in a while in gardening, you find something that is so cool that it just makes you smile. This is one of those times. I can't say enough good things about this system. And while I realize this must read like a freakin' commercial, I have absolutely no connection to Better Than Nature.
I recommend this piece of equipment very highly. |
