Getting Set Up
Better Than Nature understands how important it is to set up the product perfectly, so we have created step by step list for easily setting up your Duogrow.
Choose a multi purpose compost, not water retaining/moisture control or heavily fertilized. Place your reservoir on an even surface, placing the feeder try atop of it. Wet one of your feeder mats and insert it through the hole into the bottom of one of the pots until the pointed tip is just below the top of the pot. Repeat these steps with the second pot. Fill the pots with compost while making sure to keep the feeder mat upright. Firm the feeder mat, ensuring there is good contact between the feeder mat and compost. Then make a hole in the compost large enough for your plant. Add your plant and more compost to cover the feeder mat. Firm the compost down gently around the plant to settle the compost. Lastly water well using a watering can with a rose until the compost is moist, but not saturated.
Feeding and Watering
Better Than Natures sells reservoirs in many sizes and are always wanting to help you make the best of your gardening experiences, so here are some tips for watering and feeding your plants.
After planting do NOT add water to the reservoir until the compost is dry to the touch, this may take up to 2-3 days in the summer or 10-14 days in the winter. Once the compost has dried, fill the reservoir with water (keep it topped for best results). If the top of your compost is dry, don’t worry! This is normal, it prevents water from evaporating and nutrients from becoming concentrated in the compost. The compost will be moist in there root area though, where the water is needed. Bonus Tip: very occasionally during hot weather, dampen your compost from the top.
Most compost has sufficient nutrients to sustain the plants for 4 weeks (check your compost label to confirm). After this you will need to add a fertilizer/feed to your reservoir, as if you were growing in a pot or grow bag. Better Than Nature recommends Holland Secret manufactured by plant life products, which is a sediment free three part fertilizer for best results. For the first time you use the feed, top up your reservoir so it’s almost full of water and add 150ml of A followed immediately by 150ml of B. Every time you add water to your reservoir - for every 1 litre of water you add, add 6ml of A and B. If using an alternate plant feed, add using the manufacturers recommended dose rates. Do not top water with feed.
